Iran produces over 31mln metric tons of crude steel in 12 months

Iran produced 31 million tons (mt) of crude steel in 2023 and has produced 2.9 mt of crude steel in December 2023, according to the World Steel Association (WSA).

In its latest report, the WSA said that the major steel production companies in 71 countries produced more than 135.7 million mt in December 2023, which shows a 5.3% decrease compared to December 2022.

According to the report, Iran’s steel industry, with the production of 2.9 million mt of crude steel in December 2023, ranks 8th among the top steelmakers in the world in terms of monthly production, although in terms of total production in 2023, Iran with the production of 31.1 million mt is the tenth biggest steelmaker in the world.

China produced 67.4 million mt in December 2023, down 14.9% on December 2022. India produced 12.1 million mt, up 9.5%. Japan produced 7.0 million mt, up 1.1%. The United States produced 6.8 million mt, up 7.6%. Russia is estimated to have produced 6.0 million mt, up 4.3%. South Korea produced 5.4 million mt, up 2.7%. Germany produced 2.6 million mt, down 2.3%. Türkiye produced 3.2 million mt, up 21.2%. Brazil produced 2.5 million mt, up 0.9%. Iran produced 2.9 million mt, up 12.1%.
