Iran sets record in rail transit: Official

The Islamic Republic of Iran Railways broke the record of rail transit in the year to March 20, said the IRIR head on Saturday.

Noting that the development of railway lines is on the agenda in the current government, Miad Salehi said: “Part of the requirements of railway development is the updating of equipment and special attention to the employees, and we are trying to take greater steps in these fields in the second year of the government,” IRNA reported.

The development of the railway sector is one of the macro policies of the Iranian government as it has been emphasized by the general policies of the country’s national development plans.

According to the efforts made in the first six months of the current Iranian year, a plan was made for the transit of five trains from the northeast of Russia, Salehi said.

“After leaving Russia, passing through Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan and traveling a distance of more than 4,000 kilometers, the said trains enter Iran from the Sarakhs railway border, and by traveling about 1,600 kilometers through the north-south corridor of Iran, they reach Shahid Rajaee Port in Bandar Abbas,” the official added.
